Most hospitals are willing to be flexible with offers for veterinary specialists.

From what I have seen over the past few years, many hospitals are willing to be quite flexible when putting together an offer for a veterinary specialists. In addition, there are some unique components that are being offered in a compensation packages. For example:

Some hospitals have relationships with banks to help their doctors buy a home and can lead to huge savings.

- Equity Options

Hospitals are offering the opportunity to buy into the hospital or are gifting equity as part of the package.

- Monthly stipends for residents is still an option

- Retention bonuses with no clawbacks

- Longer, consecutive PTO to accommodate the travel of International Veterinarians

- Increased CE budgets and time allowed

I believe that most hospitals want to support their doctors as they seek work/life balance and a quality of life outside the hospital. If there is something that would help you as a person or as a doctor, and it is a little outside the box, I would suggest to ask. You never know!
